2012-2013 Kindergarten Registration

Central Elementary has begun Kindergarten registration for the 2012-2013 school year! Any student who will be five years old on or before August 1st may register for Kindergarten at Central. The parent or legal guardian is asked to please bring the child’s birth certificate, shot records, copy of a social security card and a physical. Registration can take place during regular office hours. For more information please contact Central Elementary,633-2141.

Attention High School Students and Parents!!!

East Arkansas Community College offers a program that will allow you to earn college credit while still attending high school. This program is known as Concurrent Enrollment.

FCSD Sign Goes up at Administration Office

Forrest City School District Maintenance employees Bobby Beliew and Bobby Herbert place signs at the FCSD Administration central office over past Superintendent's pictures. The Administration office which moved to one of the buildings on the Stewart Elementary campus in the summer of 2011 is coming together a bit more this week as students in grades 3rd through 8th take the benchmark test. Third and fourth grade students share the building space with the Administration staff located on Irving Street during the school year.

LMAE Students of the Month - March

FCSD Teacher Has Book Published and is Available at Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com

Forrest City School District Junior High Teacher, David Yates now adds Author to his credentials. He wrote a book that has been published and can be purchased at Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com. The title of the book is "Three Days on Counsel Street" and earlier this month it was in the top 300 ranking for Books at Barnes & Noble. The book can be purchase for around $10.

AAE Region Art Show on Display, EACC Fine Arts Center

Pictured is Forrest City High School Art Instructor, Cheryl McMickle working on an art piece currently on display at East Arkansas Community College. The Fine Arts Center of EACC is currently housing the Arkansas Art Educator's Eastern Region Art Show. There are multiple pieces such as paintings, tapestries, sculptures, and photographs from various artists, all educators. The show is on display and can be viewed at the Fine Arts Center during normal business hours until April 30th.

FCHS Brings Home Three Plaques at the Annual AYAA Competition

Three Forrest City High School students brought home honors, placing at the 2012 Arkansas Young Artist Association's (AYAA) Spring Competition and Convention this week. Pictured are FCHS Art Instructor's, Don Williams and Cheryl McMickle with the FCHS winners. Pictured from left to right are sophomore, Courtni Donaldson with her stenciled printmaking piece which placed 3rd; junior, Keiona Lenard with her digital manipulated imagery piece which also placed 3rd; and sophomore Sydney Peterson with her first year graphite piece which earned a 4th place title. All three received plaques recognizing their art. In all, 21 students attended the competition and conference held in Little Rock at the State Convention center. Each student could take up to 5 pieces of art and must be members of the AYAA. Approximately 1,000 art students from around the state representing about 40 schools attended the convention and competition.

Shake, Rattle, & Roll at LMAE

Students in Susan Wheeler's Science classes at Lincoln Middle Academy of Excellence recently held an experiment with a Shake, Rattle, & Roll theme. 3rd grade lab students are pictured creating bridges out of spaghetti noodles. Their challenge was to build a structure that could withstand being placed on a scientific shaking board to represent an earthquake. If their structures withstood the shaking and remained in tact, they received the best possible grade. Pictured is LMAE Science Teacher Susan Wheeler & 6th graders India Jones & Keamber Appleby anxiously awaiting to see if their bridge would survive.
